Simelue is a poor island, it can be seen from the social condition of the building houses the society in which they are very simple. This is exacerbated by the earthquake and tsunami that spends this property islanders. Velocity of money here is also very slow and a bit, please be aware that money here is very shabby and dirty, indicating that the lack of velocity of money from the mainland population.

In Simelue no gas station, so to get the fuel we must buy from the local fuel depot. We could buy one drum (200 liters) with a single payment. 6000/liter petrol and diesel prices 5500/liter. Petrol prices could we make the handle if the condition of oil distribution to the island's current. But if the supply of fuel to the island is choked, then the price of gasoline could reach one liter for 8000-10000.
For transportation we have to bring in cars from outside the island. Such as SUM teams do, they rented a car L300 imported from mainland Aceh. For a single-car L300, SUM team contracted with 10 million already include the price of fuel and driver.

Communication on the island is very limited, a mobile phone works only in areas Sinabang town only. Even at airports Lasikin telkomsel even no signal. For data transmission can be through the existing telephone fax machine and in the city there is only one Sinabang shops that have a fax machine. Besides fax, we can send data through UNWFP. Here there is no internet uation for NGOs such as in Meulaboh, but we can use the Internet if we are close to the jobs in the UNWFP. The people in WFP's easy to talk to and easy to close. SUM friends are very familiar with them, live how we can be friends with them what does not. So far, other NGOs also asked for their help and usually smooth.

Price needs to live in Simelue relatively more expensive compared to mainland areas of NAD. Average of one meal in a stall 8000-12000 dollars. Aqua 25 000 gallons of water while the 6000-gallon refill. rented house in Sinabang very difficult. If there rose relatively expensive. we will do is find a house that can accommodate our team within two months. Average rent here is a minimum of one year or six months. So if we can get a house that would be contracted for two months means we are lucky. House rents for one year about 65 million to 100 million.

Simelue is endemic for malaria, this is explained by the team of the MENTOR initiative of a NGO in the area of intense malaria and dengue fever. Explained also by SUM friends who already are in this region that several times the team had also suffered from malaria SUM. To prevent this disease so that the team expected the team before moving to Simelue PEC should have anti-malarial medication as much as two tablets a week earlier. If you've been on this island, then the PEC team with a regular routine once a week every anti-malarial drugs should drink as much as two tablets.

Simelue water conditions in the district in general there is no good, the color of water tend to brown mud. This is compounded by the possibility septitank damaged by the earthquake so that pollute the wells of the population. With this condition, is very risky if you use the refill drinking water. We better keep wearing aqua water gallons.

Konsisi school on the island is almost all the buildings collapsed to the ground. Currently teaching and learning activities carried out in tents for help (see data diknas). This condition is exacerbated by the condition of the roads. Condition of roads in the district simelue no good, almost all paved roads in the district was badly damaged by the earthquake. Even in some districts, we would not find the road to asphalt (Atlas Logistic transport map). As a guide transportation including travel time from Sinabang, we can use the maps from the Atlas Logistic.

Both of these factors will be the biggest obstacle in doing screening. Please note that the target skrening in this district is 7630 and must be done in time as soon as possible. Screening settlement as soon as possible because we have to pursue the exam time and school holidays. So that our targets are met, then we should be able to do in Nagan screening highway as soon as possible from the targeted time. It is quite possible considering the ability of increasing screening team (see results update per district).

Simelue general hospitals experiencing severe damage, many of the damaged walls and even some of the buildings flattened by the quake. Currently, to carry out the operation just performed in a tent. Several buildings in this hospital can be used, but there are still many buildings that can not be enabled. This hospital does not have poly eyes and also does not have an eye doctor. This needs to be our record, because of technical reference will affect our performance next. There are several alternatives that we might do to handle the technical reference.
- We bring eye doctor from Meulaboh to conduct examinations for 1-2 days.
Technically this, we have a patient referral list screening these results we check with your eye doctor that we have to come from Meulaboh. Then after a diagnosis from a doctor that we know, then if need surgery then we will take the patient with one parent to the Meulaboh hospital for surgery. But if you only need glasses only then will we arrange to jakarta as we usually do.
- We take the patient to the hospital Meulaboh
All patient referrals refraction results we will take it to the Meulaboh hospital. This I think would be very difficult given the number of patient referrals very much and we transport limitations. Plus the amount of our liability will be greater because we brought with her parents.
- We bring eye doctor from jakarta
This alternative is necessary if we are not able to get schedule an eye doctor in Meulaboh for not getting permission to leave from the hospital. If this happens, then we bring doctors from outside Meulaboh. Then we do the technical activities such as the first alternative.

Please note, in the hospital simelue there are no equipment for eye medical action. So all the equipment needed is the personal equipment of the eye-doctor.

Note: Primary eye Care (PEC) program
